Mission

At The School at Columbia University, we work with a dynamic and diverse community drawn equally from the families of University employees and from the local community.

We dedicate ourselves to fostering in our students personal resourcefulness and integrity, a sense of social responsibility, and a lifelong appreciation of learning through an innovative, socially and emotionally supportive, and academically challenging program. Our pedagogical and curricular philosophies embrace multicultural perspectives, which challenge educators and learners to examine their preconceived notions of race, gender, ethnicity, class, ability, religion, and sexual orientation. We adhere to a common code of civility among all constituents. We tailor our instruction so that the needs of the individual students are met. A committed faculty and administration strive to create a school that will stand as a model for what K-8 education can be, and serve as a genuine and enduring partnership between Columbia University and its neighbors.

Now over 500 strong, The School at Columbia Alumni Association reaffirms the mission of The School by upholding its core values – community, collaboration, diversity and innovation – long after leaving the halls of 556 West 110th Street. We invite you to stay in touch with The School by volunteering at TSC programs like Rock the Block, attending upcoming alumni events and by following us on social media. Ongoing Touch Points

Welcome Back Alumni!
Our alumni love to come back to TSC and reconnect with faculty, staff, and fellow classmates, and we love seeing them!

The last Friday of the month between 11:30-1:00 pm are reserved as alumni visit times for the 2023-24 school year. This excludes Fridays when The School is closed. Please see our School Calendar for reference and the Athletics Calendar for upcoming games.

If you would like to set up a date and time outside of the designated alumni visit period, please reach us at the Office of Enrollment with the proposed date and approximate time of your visit.

In preparation for your visit, be sure to bring a form of identification (TSC Alumni ID card, government ID, etc.) to present to the Front Desk Security when checking in.

The School Alumni College Destinations
We update the Alumni College Destinations page each year with collected information. Don't see your college or university, reach out and help us keep it up to date!

Alumni Brunch
Each year, we host an Alumni Brunch the morning after Commencement for the graduating class. We present these newly-matriculated alumni with goody bags and officially welcome them to the TSC Alumni Association. We ensure that personal email addresses and cell numbers are collected via Google Form if they have not been already.

Reach out to help us keep our records up to date by sharing changes to your email or phone number changes since graduating from TSC.

Annual Alumni Weekend
With the return to full in-person operations at The School, we have revived TSC traditions from years past as well as created some new ones with the introduction of our new annual Alumni Weekend! This weekend is packed full of fun events to reconnect past cohorts of TSC students, and is held at the end of the academic year.

The schedule of events from our inaugural Alumni Weekend in early June of 2023 included Board Game Night at Hex & Co. on Broadway, Paint & Chat Night at Painting Lounge-Harlem, alumni chaperoning at TSC’s Field Day, and the all-time favorite Alumni Bowling at Bowlero-Chelsea Piers.

We are excited to continue this exciting new tradition as a way of staying in touch with our broad alumni community, and helping them to (re)connect with each other!
