Admissions

Application Process

Our application process begins in mid-August, a year before a family would like to enroll a child at The School at Columbia University. Due to our unique program, we have a somewhat different application process for families affiliated with Columbia University and neighborhood families not affiliated with the University. Kindly read more about the details of both application processes for Columbia and Neighborhood Families.

Kindergarten applicants to The School should turn five by August 31 of the year they will be enrolled in Kindergarten. This is based on The School’s experience of what has allowed most children to be most successful and ready for Kindergarten. If your child has a fall birthday and you wish to discuss their Kindergarten application eligibility at The School in the year they will turn five, please reach out to Mónica Amaro, Director of Enrollment. If an application is released, The School will then make a determination about kindergarten readiness through the admissions process.

We do not require any educational testing (ERB, etc.) for admission, nor do we have an application fee.

Siblings - Early Process

The School at Columbia conducts an early process for children applying to Kindergarten who are siblings of currently enrolled students. Given the limited number of available openings at other grade levels (Grades 1-8), and our commitment to an inclusive, open community, the early sibling process does not extend to siblings applying to other grades at The School.

The School does not give preference in admissions at any grade level to the siblings of students who have graduated or left The School.
