The 8th graders shared, book fair style, the short stories and memoirs they recently wrote. Students, faculty, and family were invited to stop by in order to read and comment on their work.

Flash Animations of Chemical Reactions
Kiersten Jennings' science students created flash animations of various chemical reactions: single displacement, double displacement, synthesis, decomposition, and combustion.

Elgg Social Networking Site
As a first foray into our school's new social networking site powered by Elgg, 8th Graders joined online communities and created connection around their independent reading books. Students learned how to customize their personal profile on the site, network with friends, and connect with other communities.

Atomic Theory Presentations
Kiersten Jennings's science students worked in pairs to present early atomic theory from a variety of scientists. Students prepared slide shows and in-class activities for their peers.

Maria Sassani's music students remixed the works of early American composers. Students were given a choice of three composers (Francis Hopkinson, William Billings, and Justin Morgan) and used GarageBand to modernize their selection.

Eighth grade students and teachers went to Nature's Classroom in Massachusetts from Oct 1-5. The students signed up for classes (courses included turtle dissections, geo-dome building, hot air balloons, making rubber, orienteering, and scat), hiked, played sports, and reinforced friendships.
