Admissions Overview
In keeping The School's mission, our admissions process aims to ensure that The School maintains an even balance between children of Columbia families and children of community families who live in Public School Districts 3 and 5, which comprise much of Harlem, Morningside Heights and the Upper West Side.

Our admissions process is structured to provide families with many opportunities to learn about our school, its mission, and its program, and to share with us the information we will need to appropriately place children in classes and support their learning here at The School.

PLEASE NOTE: OUR DEADLINE FOR LOTTERY ENTRIES WAS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2007.  WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ENTRIES INTO OUR 2008-2009 LOTTERY.

This year, we anticipate approximately 60 openings for kindergarten, and a few openings in first through eighth grade. After we have made offers of admission, we will maintain an active waitlist through the summer in case spots become available before the 2008-2009 school year begins.

We are grateful for Columbia’s generosity, which provides for our financial aid program and allows us to have a completely need-blind admissions process. Our decision to admit a child does not hinge in any way on a family’s financial resources.

Throughout the admissions process, please contact our office if you have any questions or concerns at 212.851.4216 or by email at admissions@theschool.columbia.edu.
