First Grade Teacher
B.A. - Douglas College, British Columbia, Canada (Psychology and Education)
Jan started her teaching career at Princeton Day School, as a reading, writing, science, social studies, and math teacher. She also served as a curriculum leader, admissions representative and mentor teacher. In addition to her work in the classroom, Jan spent her summers as a curriculum designer and mentor teacher for Breakthrough New York, a six-year college access program committed to getting high-potential, low-income students to four-year colleges. She has experience in grade levels from first through eighth and now finds her teaching home in first grade at The School. She is passionate about hearing young learners voices and has enjoyed using new technology tools to capture students' thinking. Jan cares a great deal about carefully building and scaffolding learning for all of her students, while using constructivist approaches within the integrated curriculum at The School.
