The School at Columbia University offers a predoctoral psychology internship training program for eligible doctoral candidates in School and Clinical Psychology programs. The psychology internship is a full-time, 40-45 hours per week, 10-month position. The internship begins in late August and ends in late June. Interns complete a minimum of 1750 supervised hours of training. There will be three full-time interns for the 2010-2011 school year. The internship is an organized training program that is designed to provide interns with a planned, programmed sequence of training experiences with a primary focus on assuring both breadth and quality of training. The internship provides training in a broad range of psychological assessment and intervention activities. Under supervision, interns provide direct psychological services to an ethnically and culturally diverse group of students, parents, and school personnel. Interns receive at least two hours of individual supervision per week from licensed staff psychologists and at least two hours of additional didactic experiences, including group supervision and training seminars. Intern Selection Process
All applications are due on November 15, 2009. Once all of the applications are received, they will be reviewed thoroughly by the Director of the Internship Training Program and all supervisors. The School intends to interview the most qualified 10-12 applicants. Applications are carefully reviewed to ensure that each potential candidate meets all of the requirements for this internship program. Each candidate must be from an accredited graduate program, have completed at least 900 practicum hours, and should have experience in schools and/or coursework that has prepared them to provide school-based psychoeducational services. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications are not interviewed. Those potential candidates that are selected for an interview will be notified in mid December. On the day of the interview, candidates will meet with several members of the CST and will have the opportunity to speak with current interns. It is possible that some candidates will be invited back for a second interview the following week. Those members of the CST that participated in the interview process, including the current interns, will meet to discuss candidates. The final APPIC ranking decisions are made by the Director of Internship Training.
