• Two-step process beginning with need-blind lottery; families who are drawn from the lottery are notified in November and receive applications

• Lottery list is not closed, The School may go back and contact families further down the list after February if more spaces are available

• Receiving an application does not guarantee a space

• Catchment Area - Public School Districts 3 & 5 – families drawn from the lottery must provide proof of residency by submitting Con Ed bills, lease, mortgage and maintenance bills or tax returns; No other bills or documentation will be accepted as proof of residency

• Members of the Columbia University bargaining units can apply through the Neighborhood lottery process if they reside in Districts 3 and 5

• Kindergarten age requirement: The School at Columbia follows the New York City Public School’s calendar for birthday cutoffs; Students applying to Kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year must turn five by December 31, 2014

• Testing requirements and application fee: We do not require any educational testing (ERB, etc) for admission, nor do we have an application fee

• Admission Inquiries - Online inquiry/Lottery opens September 1, 2013 and closes on October 31, 2013;
Paper forms also available or come in and complete an online form at the school

• Lottery drawing and Applications: All inquiries submitted are entered into the Neighborhood Lottery; Applications mailed to families drawn from the lottery in early November

• Application deadline December 17, 2013

• Must submit completed application, proof of residence, birth certificate and photo

• Parent/s must attend Open House prior to December 17, 2013

• Parent/s and child must attend Child Visit in January 2014

• School reports due December 17, 2013

• Notifications mailed out early February 2014 – signed contracts and deposits due February 14, 2014.

• We have a limited number of openings at each grade level. Because we draw more students from our lottery than we have spaces, children may be placed on our waitlist to be offered admission if additional spaces become available.

• Wait list stays active only until the start of school year, and does not automatically carry over to the next year; Family must reapply if they wish to be in the next year’s application cycle
